Serving women, children and the disabled in Ukraine with the love of Christ

LifeSavers and Handfuls of Purpose

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives…to comfort all who mourn…to bestow on them the crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of despair….” Isaiah 61: 1-3

LifeSavers and Handfuls of Purpose are Mission to Ukraine’s benevolence programs that extend the love of Christ in tangible ways. It is a special way of saying “God loves you” and to show it with deeds. Through the provision of food, clothing, medical and dental care, medicines, counseling, and items as needed that we are able to provide, women and children, our primary aid recipients, see the care of those who follow Christ.

Women in the LifeSavers program are being helped with basic needs for themselves, their new baby and their other children, if needed.  We understand that having another mouth to feed can tip the balance towards abortion. We want to do everything that we can to help a women rejoice in her choice of life for her child.  If you would like to affirm a woman’s decision to save her child from abortion and contribute towards her support for the first 18 months of her child’s life, please visit our How Can I Help Page to make a donation or to become a monthly LifeSaver supporter.

Handfuls of Purpose helps families care for their children with disabilities. Having a child with disabilities often means leaving the workplace and can cause substantial burden financially. Ukraine has been slow to move from their Soviet legacy of disregard and neglect of those who are “imperfect”. Even while the government has expressed a desire to see improvements in the care of disabled children, the overall poverty of the country coupled with deep-seated prejudice continues to make education and accessibility very difficult for these families. Handfuls of Purpose provides supplemental food, clothing, medicines and often diapers, which can be extremely expensive. Along with material provision, the families receive the true Bread of Life at weekly MtU Bible studies for mothers and group activities for children with special needs.
